From photo models and artists to his sick father and hardened workers from the American West: the complete oeuvre of the famous American portrait photographer Richard Avedon (1923-2004) was seen at the Foam photography museum in Amsterdam. A retrospective exhibition after his death

Avedon is considered one of the most important photographers of the second half of the last century. In the beginning he mainly made a name for himself by photographing celebrities. After the Second World War he brought about a change in portrait photography by portraying models not stiff and static, but moving. His 1957 portrait of Marilyn Monroe, who has finished her show and stares down wearily, is famous.
