Unique Porcelain Ashtray from the no longer existing Dutch Manufacturer: Ramie Union Enschede. Art Deco angular Design.
The factory was owned by the Van Gelder family. Due to its Jewish origins, the factory had come under the control of the Germans during the Second World War. A disastrous American mistake bombing of Enschede on November 8, 1944, hit the porcelain department of the Ramie Union factory hard, resulting in three deaths.
Ceramics from Ramie Union can be admired in various museums, including the Rotterdam Museum. In 1954 there was an exhibition of WETA laboratory porcelain in the Kurhaus.
