This calendar is usually mentioned when discussing Mayan calendars. It is actually an artifact from the Aztecs, who based their calendars on Mayan culture. Anthropologists called this stone the 'Sun Stone' - after the god Tonatuih in the center.

Tzolk'in calendar.
The religious Tzolkin calendar consisted of twenty named periods of thirteen days. Each successive day increments the day number by one, but the period name also becomes that of the "next" period. (In our time, this would mean something like a succession of, for example, February 3, March 4, April 5, etc.). After 260 days, the calendar repeats itself. These cycles, as in the Haab calendar, do not receive a year number. The Maya often specified dates using both the Haab and Tzolkin calendars. In this way, a date is only repeated after 52 years.
