DESCRIPTION: An exceptional late-19th-century French religious wall font (bénitier de chevet) from the Belle Époque period. This high-quality devotional piece features an ornate gilded bronze cross decorated with intricate, multi-colored Champlevé enamel work. The center of the cross highlights a stylized "IHS" Christogram monogram. The enameled elements are mounted on a substantial, heavy slab of genuine polished green onyx cut into a clean cross shape. The water basin features its original, matching hinged lid. The reverse solid brass backing plate is deeply stamped with an antique anchor maker's mark (foundry stamp).

DIMENSIONS: - Height: 21.5 cm (approx. 8.5") - Width: 13.5 cm (approx. 5.3") - Stone Thickness: 1.5 cm (approx. 0.6")
CONDITION REPORT: Excellent antique condition overall. The green onyx backing plaque is structurally sound with beautiful natural veining. The exterior champlevé enamel remains remarkably vibrant, complete, and free of major chipping. The original lid hinge operates smoothly. The interior white porcelain basin lining shows expected light historic mineral residue from use and features a small, clean drainage hole at the very bottom.
