Mid-20th century, circa 1940-1960. This plate is an example of Delft Blue pottery, a style that has become known worldwide for its distinctive blue and white decorations. Although the term Delft Blue is often associated with pottery from Delft, the Netherlands, this style was also imitated by other manufacturers. The mark Boch, combined with Delfts and Royal, indicates production by the Belgian firm Boch Freres Keramis, which manufactured Delft Blue-like products in the 19th-20th centuries. The depicted landscape, featuring a waterway, house, and trees, is typical of Dutch landscapes and reflects the romantic and idyllic imagery that was popular during that period. The scalloped rim and the detailed floral and scroll motifs around the edge are characteristic of decorative wall plates from this era.
