Wikipedia:

Fray Guillermo Butler ( Córdoba , December 14, 1880 - Buenos Aires , July 17, 1961) was an Argentine painter of the Dominican order , considered an important artist in sacred themes and in the series of landscapes of the Sierras of Córdoba .

Biography
The son of Irishman William "Guillermo" Butler and Italian Maria Batto, he adopted his father's name upon entering the Order of Preachers of Saint Dominic de Guzmán in 1896. After his ordination, he studied painting with Emilio Caraffa and in 1908 traveled to Europe where he furthered his training with Desiré López. He returned to Buenos Aires in 1915 and was awarded the National Painting Prize in 1925. He exhibited in Venice in 1919 and in other European cities.

He founded the Beato Angelico Academy [ 1 ] —of whom he was a great admirer— and was appointed a full member of the National Academy of Fine Arts . [ 2 ]

He created stained glass windows in the chapel of the Anunziata College, the Church of the Savior in Buenos Aires, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Villa María , Córdoba, and the Santo Domingo Convent where he resided.

His work of a religious and intimate nature was influenced by the Nabis and the pointillists , his work is at times naive ( naive art ), and is represented in the National Museum of Fine Arts , and in the museums of Córdoba, Santa Fe, the Castagnino Museum of Rosario [ 3 ] and Tucumán.

In 2005, a retrospective tribute was held at the Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires.

Although he was a contemporary of the avant-garde, he was not influenced by any movement: in his naive and mystical interior landscapes, a certain post-impressionist air can be perceived , but what predominates is his own gaze, sparse, self-absorbed and singular.

Butler was a religious figure who focused his attention on the landscape, focusing his gaze beyond the church walls, thus connecting his artistic thinking with that of many of his contemporaries. Landscape representation was an important topic in the artistic production of the period.
