Elton Bennett (1910 – 1974) was a 20th-century American artist living and working in the Northwest. He became the most popular artist in the Pacific Northwest when his silkscreen “The Sea Bird’s Cry” was first sold in 1959. More than any other artist, he portrayed the Pacific Northwest the way its residents like to think it looks. His luminous silkscreens show us scenes of the coast and mountains so vivid and memorable that it is impossible to visit the areas he depicted without seeing them as extensions of Bennett’s art.

This book details his life and career as an artist. More than 100 reproductions of his silkscreens and sketches, many never shown before, are presented in this tribute to an artist who followed no trends or fads, who went his own direction and, in his words of advice to other artists, “hung in there” until he found acceptance for his work.
