Autoworld - pontiac - gto coupe 1964 20cm lang 1964 not only marked the arrival of the ford mustang but also the formalization of the pontiac gto which appeared in 1963 as a variant based on the tempest 1964. The body was available as a coupe, hardtop and convertible. The gto package integrated a 389ci v8 with the competition-derived 421 engine high output heads and a four-body carburetor, all for an output of 325 horsepower at 4800 rpm. As an option it was possible to get the tri-power package (three double-barrel carburettors) which offered 23 more horsepower. The pontiac gto is considered to be the first muscle car.
