Mary McMurtrie (1902-2003) was een Schotse botanisch kunstenaar en tuinbouwkundige. Ze schreef en illustreerde verschillende boeken over wilde bloemen en verwierf internationale erkenning voor haar botanische kunst.
Mary genoot haar opleiding aan Gray's School of Art en staat bekend als een van de meest opmerkelijke, bescheiden en hoog aangeschreven botanische kunstenaars die Schotland heeft voortgebracht. Zij bleef schilderen tot haar 101e jaar, toen ze de oudste nog werkende kunstenaar van Groot-Brittannië was, met de nadruk op accurate fysieke aantrekkelijkheid in plaats van botanische analyse.
Meer dan 40 jaar lang runde ze een kwekerij van alpenbloemen en tuinbloemen in de pastorie van Skene, tot aan de dood van haar man in 1949. Vervolgens runde ze de kwekerij in Springbank Lodge in Aberdeen en uiteindelijk in Balbithan House in Kintore, dat ze in 1959 kocht. Ze verzamelde en schilderde wilde bloemen in Kenia, Schotland en de Algarve. Zij was lid van de Society of Botanical Artists. Publicaties van haar hand omvatten Wild Flowers of Scotland, Wild Flowers of the Algarve (4 delen 1981-1994), Scots Roses (1998) en Old Pinks, dat postuum werd uitgegeven in 2004.
Tentoonstellingen van haar werk zijn gehouden in Frankrijk, de RHS London, Portugal, Schotland en Kenia.

Mary McMurtrie (1902-2003) was a Scottish botanical artist and horticulturalist. She wrote and illustrated several books of wild flowers and became internationally recognised for her botanical art.
Mary was trained at Gray’s School of Art and she was one of the most remarkable, modest and highly regarded botanical artists Scotland has produced. She continued to paint into her 101st year when she was Britain’s oldest working artist, with an emphasis on accurate physical attractiveness, rather than botanical analysis. For over 40 years she ran a nursery of alpines and garden flowers at the Manse of Skene until the death of her husband in 1949,then at Springbank Lodge, Aberdeen and finally at Balbithan House, Kintore, purchased in 1959. She collected and painted wild flowers in Kenya, Scotland and the Algarve. She was a member of the Society of Botanical Artists. Her publications included Wild Flowers of Scotland, Wild Flowers of the Algarve (4 vols 1981-1994), Scots Roses (1998)and Old Pinks ( which was published posthumously in 2004).
Exhibitions of her work have been held in France, at the RHS London, Portugal, Scotland and Kenya.
