Philips De 'Tulp' is een cardioïde dynamische microfoon

The 'Tulip' is a cardioid dynamic microphone and one of the most successful types ever produced by Philips. It was intended for both speech and music and was created from about 1955 to 1960, after which the model was replaced by a slightly differently stylised version (the black with chrome, left), with the same type number, which remained in production until the end of the 1960s. The element in 'the Tulips' was used in many Philips microphones: about 5,000,000 were manufactured in total.

They were made for noise amplification (P. A.) and were also used in the Dutch parliament, among other things. Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger sang through it at concerts in the Netherlands, but they were also widely used in England in the Sixties.

Fidel Castro uses at least five of these EL 6031s at the same time, for his exhaustingly long speeches to the Cuban population.

Although very different in the styling of the American or German-made microphones, they had a very special look. In the late 1960s, Philips ended the production of almost all of their professional microphones, leaving only a division that used a number of BPE (Back Plate Electrets, a kind of capacitors whose rear electrode had already been energised during production) microphones, for studio and P.A. AKG (of which Philips owned 25%) supplied the other types, with a Philips logo, although some types were made specifically for Philips, with the corresponding separate appearance. Ze werden gemaakt voor geluidsversterking (P. A.) en werden onder andere ook gebruikt in het Nederlandse parlement. Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger zong er door bij concerten in Nederland, maar ook in Engeland werden ze in de Sixties veel gebruikt.

Fidel Castro gebruikt ten minste vijf van deze EL 6031s tegelijkertijd, voor zijn vermoeiend lange toespraken tot de Cubaanse bevolking.

Hoewel zeer verschillend in styling van de microfoons van Amerikaanse of Duitse makelij, hadden ze een heel aparte look. In de late jaren 1960 beëindigde Philips de productie van bijna al hun professionele microfoons, er resteerde alleen een divisie die een aantal BPE (Back Plate Electrets, een soort condensators waarvan de achterste electrode tijdens de productie al op spanning was gebracht) microfoons, voor studio en P.A. gebruik. AKG (waarvan Philips voor 25% eigenaar van was) leverde de overige typen, met een Philips-logo, hoewel sommige soorten speciaal werden gemaakt voor Philips, met het bijbehorende aparte uiterlijk.
