2003 wordt beschouwd als een uitstekend vintage jaar voor port. De combinatie van rijpe druiven en geconcentreerde smaken heeft geleid tot krachtige en complexe portwijnen met een goed bewaarpotentieel. 2003 is een van de vintage jaren die door portproducenten als officieel gedeclareerd jaar is aangemerkt. Dit betekent dat de omstandigheden ideaal waren voor de druivenoogst, wat resulteerde in kwalitatief hoogstaande port.

The 2003 Croft Vintage Port begins with a nose that just explodes from the glass with blackberry, bilberry, violets, morning dew, and cassis all with superb delineation. The palate is full-bodied, magnificent, and regal, with blackberry, blueberry, and a sense of minerality coming through towards the finish. Great finesse on the finish. Outstanding.

"The 2003 Croft has a relatively exotic nose for this Port, with cherry liqueur, peat, licorice and melted dark chocolate on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, ripe black fruit. It is plush and heady, the acidity lower than the 2007 or 2009, so that the finish is rounded, decadent and spicy, without the tension and class of other vintages. It is a hedonistic delight, but it would not be my choice of Croft at the moment. Tasted March 2013." -NM, 6/27/13

"Bright, saturated ruby. Brooding aromas of bitter cherry, violet and licorice, lifted by a resiny nuance. Then densely packed, concentrated and fresh, with rich, fleshy flavors of kirsch and dark chocolate. Finishes with big, broad, thoroughly ripe tannins and very good lingering black cherry fruit. This is surprisingly easy to taste today but should age well on its ripe tannins and sheer balance." -
