de lp was gewoon “peter gabriel” getiteld, de volgende albums zouden de vermeldingen ii, iii en iv krijgen, maar kregen ook een alias benaming. Voor de lp “i” is dat “car”. Dit vanwege de foto van een lancia flavia met gabriel achter het stuur op de hoes. De auto was eigendom van storm thorgerson, de ontwerper van de hoes en medeoprichter van hipgnosis, dat ook bekend is van de iconische pink floyd hoezen.
