De auditie van the beatles bij decca vond plaats op 1 januari 1962 in de studio van decca records in west hampstead, londen. De toen nog onbekende beatles namen vijftien nummers op die de groep in die tijd op zijn repertoire had staan. Decca besloot echter geen platencontract met the beatles aan te gaan, maar koos voor brian poole and the tremeloes, die op dezelfde dag auditie deden. De afwijzing geldt als een van de grootste historische vergissingen in de popmuziek. De groep bestond toen uit john lennon (slaggitaar), paul mccartney (basgitaar), george harrison (sologitaar) en pete best (drums).

this cd was a dutch release that was given for free when products were ordered from wehkamp, a mail-order company. Recordings from the 1st of january 1962. "licensed" from san juan music group, who were successfully sued in 2000 by some music stars of the 1950s for using songs without permission. It is certain they never had permission to use or license these beatles tracks either. The booklet contains a small history of the "decca tapes" written up by the then head of the paul mccartney club in the netherlands to add to the curiosity of this release.
