The Rumour without Graham Parker was still well worth a listen as this compilation demonstrates. This disc offers up some consistently good tunes, a few of them real gems. The sound of The Rumour leans towards a pop-ish blend of Nick Lowe and Wreckless Eric. I like the description in the liner notes, calling them "a new-wave-ish pub rock band". The strength of the band was obviously the instrumental dexterity of the members, boasting ace veteran musicians such as Martin Belmont on guitar, Bob Andrews on keyboards, Brinsley Schwarz on guitar, Andrew Bodnar on bass and Stephen Goulding on drums.
