The cliché says that what's good comes quickly. This does not apply to the Scottish Snow Patrol, which only experienced great success ten years after its foundation in 1994 with the album Final Straw, of which no less than two million copies were sold. With Eyes Open, the band has a good trump card to take the last step towards mega status. The album was recorded with producer Garret 'Jacknife' Lee, who was also responsible for the successful predecessor. He did not implement major course changes. This time too, a good balance has been found between power and emotion in eleven compelling songs, with bonus points for the nicely driving rhythm section. Although the band has a fairly conventional rock sound, there is just enough variation in the sound at strategic moments to keep them interesting. A surprising contribution comes from Martha Wainwright, who provides the second voice on Set The Fire To The Third Bar.
