By consistently evading the expectations of his audience, Bob Dylan has always managed to preserve the mystery surrounding his person. Even in the latter days of his career, the man continues to speak in riddles. Because how should we rearrange the lyrics about the young R&B singer in the opening song Thunder On The Mountain? And did he really mean that a good record has not been released in twenty years, as he stated in an interview with Rolling Stone prior to the release of Modern Times? Also on his first album since (2001) Dylan does not sell fancy talks but offers ten songs, set to simple blues and country schemes and accompanied by an excellent band, lyrics that give food for thought even after repeated listening. From his characteristic sneer from his early days, in 2006 only a raspy, regularly skipping voice remains. The fact that he can still give his songs so much urgency with that weakened instrument is a testament to his class.
