SDX fan speed controllers control the speed of single-phase voltage controllable motors by varying the motor voltage via phase angle control (Triac technology). The output voltage to the motor can be adjusted from high to low via the large central rotary knob. When turned all the way to the left, this knob also has an OFF position. Clockwise, it goes OFF - high speed - low speed.
Some motors do not like to run too slowly in speed and the built-in trimmer can be used for this. This allows the minimum speed to be adjusted.
The housing allows both flush mounting (IP44) and surface mounting (IP54). The SDX is the successor to the MTX, but the contemporary design of the SDX is not the only difference: The new SDX series is microprocessor controlled. This guarantees precise motor control and minimizes motor noise.

Fan speed control made easy

This residential fan speed controller regulates the speed of the motor from maximum to minimum speed . The speed is adjusted manually via a rotary knob (potentiometer), with the first position being the maximum speed. Turning the knob clockwise reduces the fan speed to the minimum speed. When the knob is in the OFF position , the motor stops. The minimum speed can be set using the internal trimmer (Vmin) within the range of 20 - 70% of the supply voltage (Us).

You can also disable the OFF position by connecting the mains voltage (230 VAC supply voltage) to the unregulated output, ie to L1 and N on the terminal block. In this case the fan will start when there is supply voltage available, regardless of whether the button is in the OFF position or not. If you want to keep the OFF position active, connect the supply voltage in the standard way via terminals L and N.

Silent engine operation

Nobody likes to be bothered by the noise and vibrations of air conditioning systems, especially not in residential areas. Therefore, it is important that the fan does not make excessive noise. This new generation of controllers is the successor to the good old MTX series. However, several improvements have been made here, the most important of which is the extra precise motor control thanks to a microcontroller. This makes the motor of the SDX series very quiet, even at the lowest speed.

AC fans

The SDX series is designed to control AC fans only by reducing the motor voltage. TRIAC technology is used here, where the speeds are reduced via phase angle control. This makes the series only suitable for voltage controllable motors, ie AC fans. The humming and buzzing are reduced to a minimum. Not sure if your fan is an AC or EC motor? Check the documentation or contact the manufacturer!

Control of additional devices via the unregulated output

When the supply voltage is connected to L and N, the unregulated output is active as long as the motor is running. The unregulated output provides a constant amount of current to operate external devices. It is intended for use in applications where precise control is not required, such as a motor indicator, external relays, solenoid valves, valves and anything suitable for non-critical loads. When the motor (ie fan) stops, the connected valve closes or the indicator light stops. When the fan is running, the valve is open or the light is on. Because this output is either ON (230 Volts) or OFF (0 Volts), this output is called the 'unregulated' output.
