'Hello, Yes you are correct that I did design the board. Martin Van Meus asked me if I was interested in designing some boards for him a number of years ago and this was one of them. My understanding was that he and Ron van der Berg had parted company and Martin needed help designing his boards so I did a small range for him.
That was my only involvement and I had no equity in the brand and do not know anything about exact construction or quality, so can't help you out in that regard. However I can certainly tell you about the design.
It was designed as a GPS Slalom board, so as opposed to a PWA Slalom board it is more comfortable and something you can sail on all day. That is due to it having a bit more length but mainly due to the rocker line.
It is a fast board and I did 40 knots on a very similar prototype at Sandy Point.
Depending on your size the fin range would be 36 through to 40cm and will run sails from 6.0 to 8.0, the sweet spot being 7.0 but again it depends on your weight.I would run the mast base in the back half of the track, as far back as you feel comfortable which will help get the board to fly off its tail and then move it forward if the board gets too flighty.
Running the mast in the centre is a good starting point but if you want more speed try it back a bit more.
Fins I would run upright Slalom unless you need a weed fin.
It was disappointing to me that the MxR project fell over and there were not more of my designs built, I am not sure how many were made but not many, you have a bit of a special board there!.
I am sorry I can't help you out more. I was only the designer and did all of the work here in Australia. I have never met Martin nor actually have seen one of the boards in the flesh other than one of the speed boards that a friend brought back to Australia after it was used at Luderitz.
Regards Martin'
